Thought Leader Goes All In For-Impact
In 2022, TeQuion Brookins (MBA & MSF ’18) decided to go “All In” when it came to magnifying her consulting firm and social enterprises. After stewarding more than $60,000,000 in grants in less than 10 years during her tenure at the McGregor fund, she has decided to focus in on the for-impact sector. “All of my roles and ventures,” she explains, “serve as opportunities to fulfill my personal vision of disrupting the prolonged impacts of systemic racism on the Black community.”
TeQuion Brookins is a self-proclaimed “hyper-networker” these days, which serves her well as an entrepreneur and consultant to nonprofits, foundations, and social enterprises. She says, “I really enjoy meeting people. I think a lot of my inter-personal professional development was initiated while at Walsh”.
When asked why TeQuion chose Walsh, she replied “because I really wanted to understand business and my undergrad is heavily focused toward the sciences”. She states Walsh gave her a new way of thinking “I am able to drive solutions that impact problems. Having an advanced degree has helped strengthen my value proposition both as an employee and entrepreneur”. She explains she wanted a college that made it possible to work and gain real-world experience while earning her degree, knowing first-hand that Walsh would enable her to do exactly that, “both of my parents went to Walsh when I was young, so it was top-of-mind when I began to consider business schools”.
Reflecting back on her time at Walsh, she states, “the communications and IT courses continue to inform a lot of my present-day work and I would advise any modern-day professional to strongly consider these courses”. She adds, “the management capstone was meaningful because it was one of my first opportunities to consult a small business, which is what I do now”.
As a multi-award-winning entrepreneur & philanthropist, TeQuion has dedicated herself to her “Bust the Gauge” initiative, where she plans to meet the goals she and her firm have set. The goals for 2023 include strengthening 100 social enterprises & racial justice initiatives across the country, driving $1M investment dollars into Black-led organizations, and fostering rest for 1,000 Black leaders through seed capital for retreats.
When TeQuion isn’t working to move the needle of change, you can find her pursuing healthy living, “I love to cook plant based versions of traditional dishes, event plan, read inspirational/motivational books, and above all SLEEP.
