FOLLOWING THE PROCESS: REACHING MY FORTUNE 500 GOAL
Walsh alumna, Kimberly Busby (BBA ’14), set a specific goal for herself and wasn’t going to stop until she achieved it. The goal? To work for a Fortune 500 Company in the industry of Strategic Supply Chain.
Kimberly knew that the first step in achieving her goal was to pick the right education. “I chose Walsh because they are rated one of the best business schools in Michigan and their graduates are recognized by Fortune 500 Companies”, said Kimberly. “The cost of tuition was affordable and I was able to transfer 82 credits from Macomb Community College“.
Reflecting on key moments in her education at Walsh, Kimberly recalls how she had to grow and adapt, “the courses were challenging and many days I felt like giving up. I remember my statistics professor telling me that if I attend every class and study, I would be rewarded”, she says.
This led to a lesson that would serve as the foundation for Kimberly’s strategic mindset, “Statistics taught me to follow the process through to the end”, she explains.
Today, Kimberly is a Global Purchasing and Supply Chain Coordinator for General Motors where she uses her knowledge of “following the process to the end” to refine the manufacturing supply chain.
She says her most memorable career opportunity came when visiting Shanghai to meet with top-tier automotive suppliers, “the project in Shanghai was a huge success and I built everlasting relationships while gaining an understanding of China’s culture. Understanding the culture has resulted in continued opportunities to manage Global Supply Chain accounts”.
In Kimberly’s free time, you can find her doing the things that bring her joy. “I love traveling with family and friends”, she says. “My favorite place to travel to is Walt Disney World”.
